A diaper is made up of three layers, topmost layer is an innner layer which is next to baby's skin and made up of soft material, the middle layer is made up of superabsorbent polymer (SAP), and the third layer is waterproof outer shell, consisting of an elastic band and polyethylene back sheets. The SAP is also called as the super absorption polymer. 

In baby wipes, formaldehyde is used which has a harmful effect on baby skins and results   in skin infection, rashes, redness of the skin, itchiness, and dermatitis. Major countries such as the U.S. have banned the use of harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde. Some other chemicals such as DEHP, Phthalate BP, and DBP are also banned by the U.S. FDA. For instance, Johnson and Johnson has  restricted the use of 1, 4- Dioxane and formaldehyde in baby shampoo. In 2014, P&G restricted the use of phthalate  for adding fragrance to the products.
