Abstract

Aluminum Sulfide is a chemical compound, which exists in various forms with formula Al2S3. It is colorless in nature and on hydrolysis produce hydrogen sulfide (H2S). When exposed to moisture, aluminum sulfide hydrolyzes to hydrated aluminum hydroxides or oxides. It is mainly used as a flocculating agent in the purification of drinking water and waste water treatment plants.  It is also used in paper manufacturing, sanitation and tanning. Aluminum sulfide is also used as a general-purpose food additive.

Increasing use in the paper and pulp industry and as a water treatment chemical are major factors driving the aluminum sulfide market.
