Methylene Chloride Market - Global Industry Perspective, Comprehensive Analysis and Forecast 2015-2021

Report Code: ZMR-107 | Report Format : | Status : Upcoming |

Abstract

Methylene chloride is a colorless solvent with a mild, sweet odor. Methylene chloride also referred as dichloromethane (DCM). DCM can be manufactured by reaction with chlorine gas in distillation process. Methylene chloride does not occur naturally in the environment. It is used in various industrial processes such as pharmaceuticals, aerosols, paints and coatings, textiles, and adhesives & solvents. Methylene chloride is also used in beverage industry to decaffeinate tea and coffee. As a result of methylene chloride’s powerful solvent action and stability, it is utilized in the extraction of naturally occurring heat sensitive substances such as caffeine, butter, hops, fats, and cocoa. Methylene chloride is used as an effective solvent in the extraction of various pharmaceutical compounds and in the production of many vitamins and antibiotics.

The worldwide market for methylene chloride is growing at a rapid pace owing to increase in applications of methylene chloride as a solvent in various industries such as pharmaceuticals, adhesives & sealants, paints & coatings, textiles, and aerosols among others. Methylene chloride is also used in paint stripper and degreasers.  Prolong exposure to methylene chloride offers the risk of many disorders and abnormalities. Methylene chloride exposure may occur by contact with skin or inhalation. Methylene chloride gives chloroform like effect. These health hazards acts as restraints for the growth of the global methylene chloride market. Growing demand for fluorocarbons may provide huge opportunities for the methylene chloride market in the future.

The report covers forecast and analysis for the methylene chloride market on a global and regional level. The study provides historic data of 2015 along with a forecast from 2016 to 2021 based on revenue (USD Million). The study includes drivers and restraints for the market along with the impact they have on the demand over the forecast period. Additionally, the report includes study of opportunities available in the methylene chloride market on a global level.

Global methylene chloride market has been segmented on the basis of application and region. Metal cleaning, paint remover, chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, foam manufacturing, and others are the application segment of methylene chloride market. Pharmaceutical industry segment is expected to be the fastest growing segment in forecast period due to increasing prevalence of communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Geographically, methylene chloride market can be segmented into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. Asia-Pacific dominated the global methylene chloride market in 2015 owing to rising demand from several end-user industries. China is expected to record highest growth in the region followed by India. The methylene chloride market in China is mainly driven by its growing demand in paint degreaser and stripper applications. Methylene chloride market is highly regulated in developed countries such as Europe due to its increasing concern about industrial gas emissions. Thus, market in developed countries witnesses stagnant growth in such region.

Some of the key manufacturers in the methylene chloride market are Dow Chemical, Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd., AkzoNobel N.V., Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., INEOS, Occidental Chemicals Corporation, and 3M among others.
