Abstract

A molecule of any solution that mixes well with water is said to be hydrophilic. To be more scientific, the molecules that form ionic and hydrogen bond with water molecules are said to be as hydrophilic; they are resistant to the protein combination. Hydrophilic coatings are used in different medical devices and in specific UV-cured formulations due to its properties. Some of the medical devices where they are used include cardiovascular and urology catheters, introducer sheaths, and in temporarily implanted devices. The redundant protein absorption and cellular bond are reduced significantly by using hydrophilic coatings. Hydrophilic coatings are used in making of the biosensors; in automobiles for film sensor, for windshield to protect them from ice, and for wiper control. They are also used in automation industrial processes such as self-cleaning coatings and are used in urology catheters and Foley catheters.
