Abstract

Sol-gel nanocoating is coating the materials with a layer of nanocomposites and structured materials with the use of the sol-gel process. Small molecules are produced from solid materials in the process of sol-gel. This method is used for the purpose of fabrication of metal oxides, in particular, silicon and titanium oxides.

Nowadays, the majority of manufacturers are opting for nanocoating technologies in order to enhance their current commercial products and add entirely new properties to the existing technology. To achieve this, various approaches are used to fro fabricating nanocoatings. It is a chemical way for coating substrate and thus can be used for a wide range of nanotechnological products including powders, aerogels, ultra-thin coatings, and fibers.

Properties of sol-gel nanocoatings such as hydrophobic surfaces, chemical resistance, anti-fingerprinting, oleophobic surfaces, easy-to-clean surfaces, extreme mechanical wear resistant properties, protective transparent coatings, corrosion resistance, anti-microbial surfaces, low friction, antistatic surfaces, conducting or semi-conducting surfaces, and UV protection, is the major growth factor of the global sol-gel nanocoatings market. New innovations and increasing research and development activities adopted by the manufacturers in order to meet the high demand from end-consumers are also anticipated to boost the growth of the global sol-gel nanocoating market.
