It has been named after Wilhelm Hermann Julius Eitel, who first synthesized eitelite. It is used as a bonding agent in castings owing to its high sodium content. Eitelite, being a carbonate material, finds its application in the manufacturing of detergents, soaps, glass, ceramics, and paper.
