Smart Airports Market: Digital Transformation & Rising Security Concerns To Spur Market Growth

02-Aug-2018 | Zion Market Research

Growing traveler requirement for checking real-time flight status, weather forecast, live traffic updates, security waiting periods, driving route to airport, drive time, and departing terminal information has spurred smart airport market trends. Introduction of new technologies such as AI, biometrics, big data analytics, and blockchain are likely to bring a digital transformation across airports, thereby creating lucrative opportunities for the industry growth.

Transition from a process centric business model to a customer centric business approach is likely to drive demand for smart airports. The emerging need to effectively integrate airport functionalities is likely to boost the development of smart airports across the globe. Escalating security concerns of passengers along with the need for enhancing the operational efficiency at airports has made smart airport concept more prevalent across the globe.

For the record, in December 2016, International Air Transport Association decided to set up a joint initiative with Airports Council International to improve the airport operations as well as traveler experience in the emerging economies such as India. Reportedly, Beacon technology at airports helps in checking airport infrastructure throughput and monitoring of the passenger movement across the airport. Furthermore, it also assists the airport authorities in improving the passenger flow management, traffic & runway management, passenger processing, and facility management systems. This, in turn, is likely to boost the popularity of smart airports over the coming years.

Last year, Huawei Technologies entered in collaboration with Dubai Airports to develop a smart airport in Dubai. According to reliable reports, data center projects at Dubai Airports have become a vital part of its digital transformation move. A genuine pursuit for improving traveler experience through expansion of airport service base has encouraged Dubai Airports authorities to develop a new data center in partnership with Huawei. The smart airport is also likely to help in capacity expansion of the airport along with energy conservation.
