Abstract

Emulsion polymers are basically used in the radical polymerization which starts with the emulsion process that comprises water, monomer, and surfactant. Widely practiced emulsion is an oil-in-water emulsion. There are two types of emulsion polymers, namely, bio-based and synthetic—depending on their composition and depending on their polymerization process. The polymerization process is rapid due to high molecular weight. Waterborne emulsion polymers are environment-friendly.

These products are produced with the help of the many defined processes for emulsion polymerization. Emulsion polymers are largely utilized in paper industry for manufacturing papers, paper bags, boxes, cartons, and other products. They are also used in adhesives as binding agents in tapes, labels, glue, application in diapers, and hygiene products. These end-user segments majorly contribute to the growth of the emulsion polymer market. Emulsion polymers are used in paints and coating industry on a large scale. Rising awareness among the consumers about painting ideas and protective coatings and growing trend of interior decoration are driving the growth of the emulsion polymer market. The wide use of color and coating compounds in the automobile sector is also another factor boosting the growth of the market.
